What you'll learn

This course helps you decide whether Six Sigma is right for you by showing what it actually looks like in practice. You’ll see how Six Sigma is used at different levels of an organization, what the various belt roles really do, and the kinds of results they are expected to deliver.

You’ll also learn how successful Six Sigma projects are defined, how long they typically take, and how professionals identify the few critical factors that drive the greatest improvement. By the end, you’ll have a clear picture of the value Six Sigma creates—and whether learning it aligns with your goals, career path, or desire to improve how things work.

Total instructional time for this program is approximately 1 hour.

Content

Breakthrough Vision provides the participant a general overview of the essential concepts that underpins the practice of Six Sigma. Through dynamic lectures, the participant will better understand the nature, purpose and drivers of Six Sigma, as well as the core beliefs that form its foundation. In addition, the participant will discover how deterministic reasoning serves to enable the power of Six Sigma and how this concept can be used to leverage quantum process improvements. In support of these instructional aims, the lectures also discuss the primary tools associated with the successful practice of Six Sigma. Of particular interest, the discussion will directly compare a number of familiar products and services in terms of quality performance. This topic is often used as the all hands training for the general population of any enterprise that is pursuing Six Sigma. In doing so, the organization ensures that all of its employees understand why Six Sigma is being utilized and how it will benefit the organization. Reinforcement of major concepts, techniques, and application is realized through exercises, scenarios, and case studies. By way of this training, the participant will gain tremendous insight into the logic and reasoning which underlies Six Sigma. Total instructional time for this topic is 8 hours and 34 minutes.

Lean Practices provides the participant with the time-proven knowledge, methods and tools associated with the best-practices of a modern lean enterprise. Specifically, the participant will learn how to solve on-going operational problems and discover how to enhance or otherwise streamline daily operations. Of course, this goal is accomplished by the application of lean manufacturing principles such as mistake-proofing, pull systems and basic shop-floor improvement practices, just to mention a few. Of interest, the participant will learn how to apply such tools to a wide range of commercial as well as industrial applications. Naturally, the lean tools and methods presented in this topic can serve as an excellent entry point for initiating the deployment of Six Sigma. In other words, the practices associated with a lean production system can be used to solve many line-of-sight problems and remove the low hanging fruit; thereby, clearing a path for the full-scale installation and utilization of Six Sigma practices. This independent yet integrated approach is often called Lean Sigma and represents a viable solution for many organizations. Reinforcement of major concepts, techniques, and application is realized through exercises, scenarios, and case studies. By way of this training, the participant will gain tremendous insight into the logic and reasoning which underlies Six Sigma and the process of breakthrough improvement. Total instructional time for this topic is 1 hour and 41 minutes.

The Quality Tools topic will provide the participant with an array of classical quality improvement methods and diagnostic tools commonly associated with such initiatives as Six Sigma, Lean Sigma, TQM, 8D and other fine process improvement programs. Specifically, the participant will learn how to establish basic cause-and-effect relationships, solve on-going operational problems and discover how to enhance or otherwise improve daily operations. Furthermore, the participant will learn how data can be collected and graphically analyzed to track down unwanted sources of product and process variation; thereby, reducing product defects, process cycle time and operational costs. These time-proven methods and tools can serve as the backbone for virtually any type of quality improvement effort. Naturally, the tools and methods presented in this course can serve as an excellent entry point for a Six Sigma X-Belt program or be linked to other initiatives such as lean manufacturing to form a Lean Sigma initiative. Such an integrated approach can often represent a viable alternative for a commercial enterprise or small business that is dedicated to increasing customer satisfaction and business performance. Reinforcement of major concepts, techniques, and application is realized through exercises, scenarios, and case studies. By way of this training, the participant will gain tremendous insight into the logic and reasoning which underlies Six Sigma and the process of breakthrough improvement. Total instructional time for this topic is 13 hours and 13 minutes.
