This is a very good, quick read and thought provoking. It's a story that comes from deep thought and feeling. It calls into question conventional religion, rote practices and us as silent actors who deep down sense that Truth is missing, a hollowness that many can honestly feel. The main character quietly questions the life he built from societal expectations. He hopes, "believing maybe, if he could just keep the mask on long enough, it would eventually become his real face." I'd love to hear more from Kevin Bentley Harris. I can't wait for the audio book!
BETTER OFF DEAD is a great read! The following passage resonated with me. "She didn’t abandon her faith, but she opened it—peeled it back layer by layer, looking for what she might’ve missed." Kevin reminds us that everyone should be true to themselves and work through layer after layer while going along life's journey. He has reached inside, connected with our Universal Creator and shared on the outside through his gift of storytelling which connect with us all.
