What you'll learn

Consider a couple of statistics:

  • People with disabilities ages 18-64 command an annual buying power of approximately $500 billion about equal to that of the Hispanic-American population.
  • Less than 5% of websites are accessible.

This is a golden opportunity for businesses who invest in accessibility, but most people have only the vaguest notion of what accessibility is, and have no idea how it can help their businesses.

Meet your Instructor

Hi, I'm Angela Fowler, and I'll be your instructor for this and the other three courses in what will eventually be a four-part series. I have been working in accessibility for almost 6 years, first for a local community college and then for a company which builds web sites for the government. I have been a totally blind person all my life, and have been advocating for accessibility for decades.

What this course is

This is the first in a four-part series, the Access for Humans Master Course Series

What you get

In this course you will learn:

  • What real-world accessibility is
  • Who benefits from accessibility,
  • How your business can benefit from accessibility,
  • The truth behind some commonly held beliefs about accessibility,
  • What the three types of accessibility are and what they look like in practice.

This course will cover the basics of accessibility, what it is, who it benefits, and give you actionable steps you can take to ensure that your business is accessible.

What this course isn't

This is not a compliance course. There are many courses which teach compliance and I will link them in the resource section, but I am not a lawyer, and thus am unqualified to give the subject of compliance the detailed coverage it warrants. Also, compliance does not equal true accessibility. In my experience when businesses implement accessibility simply to achieve compliance they will stop at the point of compliance and miss out on the opportunity to make their business truly accessible.

Don't let that be you. Join me as we uncover the real life benefits of accessibility for your customers and for your business. Join me as we learn what you can do to make your business accessible and set yourself above the competition
