What you'll learn

Created by Dr. Monica Hinton of Exceptionally U Academy, this course takes a deeper dive into the history of Black/African American superheroes and their role in breaking stigma. Building on the foundation of the first course, students will explore more iconic heroes, analyze how comics challenge stereotypes, and examine their impact on identity and empowerment.

This course goes beyond representation, focusing on the psychological effects of superhero narratives and how they can strengthen self-confidence and resilience. Through thought provoking topics, story telling and creative activities—like designing their own superheroes—students will learn how storytelling can be a tool for self-empowerment. By the end, participants will have leveled up their confidence and gained a deeper understanding of comics as a force for social change and personal growth.

Requirements

This course is designed for those ready to take their superhero journey to the next level! The only requirements? A desire to have fun, learn more about yourself, appreciate history, and have completed the first Superhero Confidence course.

Building on the foundation of the free introductory course, Superhero Confidence: Origins, this next step takes a deeper dive into the rich history of Black/African American superheroes. Through the stories of iconic figures like Black Panther, Storm, and Cyborg, students will see how comics have shaped representation and addressed important social issues.

This course isn’t just about history—it’s about YOU. By analyzing superhero narratives, you’ll discover how storytelling can build resilience, break stigma, and strengthen self-confidence. If you enjoyed the first course and are excited to dig deeper into the world of superheroes and self-empowerment, this course is for you!
