Akey Ahiem is a living testament to the possibility of change, faith, and lifelong service. Now seventy-five years old and the eldest of nine siblings, he was born in Albany, GA, welcomed into this world by gentle midwife hands and a family rich in love and lessons. His formative years in the Trenton school system laid the groundwork for a life filled with wide-ranging experiences—from the hard edges of addiction and alcoholism to the hope-filled halls of new beginnings.

At forty, Akey’s life took its most important turn. Set free from the chains of addiction, he answered a higher call, immersing himself deeply into biblical studies at Philadelphia Bible College (now Cairn University). Armed with a preacher’s license and a public insurance adjuster’s expertise, Akey stepped boldly into roles of both spiritual and practical service. Through every trial and every triumph, the unwavering support of his wife, Jennifer Ahiem—a devoted nurse—has been his greatest blessing and strength.

Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ and anchoring hearts in The Great Discovery, Akey teaches with the same passion he brings to life skills education. The joy of his journey is reflected in his cherished family: three daughters, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, each a reminder of grace multiplied from generation to generation.

Akey’s service extends beyond his own family. He spent fifteen years guiding youth in the juvenile justice system and five years preaching to adults in prisons, always believing that hope can break through any wall. Over three decades of teaching Sunday School has shaped him as much as the children and adults he has taught. Akey was also a chaplain for the UAW at Kmart Distribution Center in Morrisville Pa where he also served as Chaplain for the UAW. Along the way, his dedication has earned him honors such as Man of the Year by the Progressive Baptist Association and the President’s Award from Metro Public Adjustment Inc.

Akey is the author of "How to Become an Overcomer," a course creator, and a trusted life coach. His mission is simple but powerful: to help others rise above their struggles and discover their God-given purpose. Through every lesson, every prayer, and every story, Akey’s life shines with the proof that, no matter where you start, faith and love can build a legacy that endures. # About the Author

Akey, thank you for sharing your heartfelt story. I resonated deeply as I have lost loved ones. Everyone experiences death differently, but your reminder of one's spiritual connection and faith should be a beacon of hope, to everyone when faced with that devastating call, may it be during the day or night. This course will be the hand that reaches out to someone facing the darkest day or night in their life.

Thank you Akey for sharing your course and personal experience here on The Great Discovery! I am sure this will encourage many parents who know the loss of their child. At 16 I remember our home getting a knock on the door to be told that a family member was found. When the phone rings at those times of the night especially and into the early morning answering can be dreadful. However, when we know that God is in control! We can make it through.
